The Gianni Versace series was released!

One of the most anticipated new series has finally been released - and people are talking! Not only because of the central theme, but also due to the poor choice of lead roles – and it doesn’t help that the Versace’s own family has criticized its content.

The assassination of Gianni Versace, the fashion icon who was murdered at the entrance to his Miami mansion in 1997, is an issue that will forever be highly controversial, not only because he was at the height of his career when it happened but also due to of the way he was deprived of his life. This is precisely the theme on which American Crime Story focuses.

The series is based on the book by Maureen Orth titled, Vulgar Favors: Andrew Cunanan, Gianni Versace, and the Largest Failed Manhunt in U.S. History. It stars Venezuelan actor Edgar Ramírez as Gianni Versace, Ricky Martin plays the role of Antonio D'Amico, Gianni's sentimental partner, Penelope Cruz as Donatella Versace, and Darren Criss as Andrew Cunanan: the murderer.

It only took a few episodes before strong opinions began surfacing. The designer's family even released a statement warning fans that: "The Versace family has neither authorized nor had any involvement whatsoever in the forthcoming TV series about the death of Mr. Gianni Versace. Since Versace did not authorize the book on which it is partly based nor has it taken part in the writing of the screenplay, this TV series should only be considered as a work of fiction."

Whether or not it’s fiction, we all want to know more about this great fashion magnate. This series seems to be one of the best of the year, but we will only know for sure when the season ends. For now, we have no choice but to keep an eye on the upcoming chapters.
