Pink inspires with emotional speech to her daughter
A few days ago, the Video Music Awards 2017 was held where the singer Pink received the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. The surprise of the night was the emotional speech he gave when he came to pick up the statue.
Her words were so touching and moving, since she dedicated them to her 6 years old daughter, Willow. Apparently, the little girl had a moment of insecurity when comparing herself with other girls, and not being satisfied with her physical appearance and felt ugly.
On her speech, Pink remembered the episode, which started one morning when she was driving Willow to school, and out of the blue the little girl said to her: “Mama, I’m the ugliest girl I know. I look like a boy with long hair”. Pink didn’t know what to say.
When she got home, she made a Powerpoint presentation, in which she included iconic artists from the 90s, Rockstars with androgynous looks like Prince, David Bowie, Michael Jackson, Freddie Mercury, Elton John and Annie Lennox were part of the list.
When the little girl came back from school, the singer faced her because now she had an answer, so she asked: I really want to know why you feel this way? “I look like a boy” Willow said. Then Pink asked her how does she thought she looked like, so the girl answered she was beautiful and Pink gave her a lesson.
“People makes fun of me saying I look like a boy, that I’m too masculine, that I have too many opinions or my body is too strong” said Pink. “But do you see me grow my hair. No, mama. Do you see me change my body or the way I present myself to the world? No, mama. Do you see me selling out arenas all over the world? Yes, mama. You see, we don’t change, we help other people to change, so they can see more kinds of beauty”.
Obviously, his speech was acclaimed by all the people who were there, then continued to thank the artists present for being inspired by them, "for being yourselves, for lighting the way for us."
Before he finished he turned to his little girl: And you, my dear girl, you are beautiful. And I love you". Willow's reaction was priceless.
We are all born different, with different physical characteristics and abilities. That not following the stereotypes of beauty imposed by society, do not let you put aside your dreams or demonstrate what you really are. We are all humans!
