Discover Sayulita, a Pueblo Magico in Nayarit
What are the best things to do in Puerto Vallarta?
Clearly relaxing in the sun and jumping into the Pacific Ocean in Puerto Vallarta is one of the things that both local and foreign tourists look for on their holidays, but we have another recommendation for making memories on your next gaycation.
If you’re the adventurous type (or a surfer) and want to get out of Puerto Vallarta for the day to discover more of Mexico, we recommend visiting the beautiful Magic Town (“Pueblo Magico”) of Sayulita, in the Mexican state of Nayarit.
Just a short drive or bus ride north of Puerto Vallarta will take you into the state of Nayarit. Nayarit is internationally recognized for the Riviera Nayarit and its gorgeous stretches of calm and crystalline beaches that bring travelers from all over the world.
Continue on just a ways, about 40 minutes north, you’ll encounter the small surfing village and Pueblo Magico of Sayulita. Sayulita received notoriety as a surfing community with beaches that have the ideal waves for those who want to surf for the day. A perfect space for both beginners and expert surfers alike (depending on the time of day).
In Sayulita, you’ll have a chance to walk along the colorful, typical Mexican streets in a little town. There are always friendly people who will welcome you along the way. The locals embrace their visitors as their own.
No matter what part of the world you come from, you´ll receive a warm welcome as you enter this Pueblo Magico.
The whole town is packed into a few colorful square blocks that encircle the newly refreshed plaza. It’s so small that a day trip is perfect amount of time to fall in love with this town.
Where to begin?
Start your tour of Sayulita in the small plaza in the center of the village and then begin to walk the 4 or 5 streets that originate from that point. Enjoy brightly colored buildings, a coffee or a fresh ice cream cone from local vendors or take a selfie on the most famous street under the Mexican paper cutout flags on Calle Delfines.
In Sayulita, everyone seems to know each other and everyone greets one another as they walk along. Kids may cruise past you on their bikes, or others carrying their surfboard to the beach, ready to enjoy the waves.
After your tour of Sayulita, you’ll want to pick out your favorite restaurant to eat. Fresh seafood is the specialty in most places, but you’ll also find oven-baked gourmet pizza, Italian food and much more!
Finally, take a walk to the beach, stretch out in the sun, buy a frozen coconut or a beer, recover and simply enjoy the Pacific Ocean.
On your next gaycation to Puerto Vallarta, try a day trip to the Magic Town of Sayulita, Nayarit as one of your things to do. A day trip, or even a few hours will suffice, to enjoy this quaint town and have adventures and stories to tell when you return home.
